Men's Tennis At Omni Hotels ITA Region II Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC -- Sophomore Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) advanced to the Round of 32 at the Omi Hotels ITA Regional II Championships hosted by North Carolina this weekend to lead all Monarch men's tennis entries. Csanadi defeated Damisa Robinson of Clemson 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3) in the opening round, but fell 6-3, 6-2 to Furman's John Chesworth in the following round of play.
Juniors Patrik Binkowski (Orby, Sweden) and Salman Mohammed (Calcutta, India) and sophomores Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania), and Niklas Oskarrsson (Halmstad, Sweden) each fell in the qualifying round. Binkowski dropped a straight set match to Scott Schnugg of Georgia Tech (6-3, 6-2), Milos fell to Garg Tushar of American (7-6 (13), 7-5), and Oskarrsson lost to Wake Forest's Andrew Simpson (6-3, 6-1).
Mohammed advanced the furthest of the Monarchs in the qualfying round, reaching the round of 16. He used a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Charleston Southern's Zalan Kiss and a 6-3, 6-4 vin over UNC-Greensboro's Paul Goode to reach of the third round of play in the qualifying singles bracket. However, he fell to fellow CAA player Zack Malmgren of William and Mary in a tight 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 loss.
In the main draw of the doubles bracket, the team of Binkowski and Csanadi lost in the round of 32 with a 8-3 defeat at the hands of Andy Metzler and Marcio Petrone of host school, North Carolina, while in the qualfying doubles bracket, Milos and Oskarrsson dropped a hard fought 9-8 (1) battle to North Carolina's Mike Lefflure and Scott Prybys.
The Monarch men's tennis team will return to action at the Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational beginning on November 9th.
