Highlights from Sunday's Matches

NORFOLK, Va. - James Nicholson and Kyle Hutter each won twice as Old Dominion split matches with UNC Greensboro and Binghamton this afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

ODU started off in grand style against UNC Greensboro, winning the first three matches by technical fall and pin. James Nicholson was dominant against Manny Ramirez, delivering five first period takedowns en route to a 21-5 technical fall.

Kyle Hutter and Brennan Brumley followed at 133 and 141 ,respectively, with each picking up wins by fall.

After Ivan Lopouchanski got UNCG on the board with a pin at 149, Jayk Cobbs got his first win of the year with an 11-2 major decision at 157.

Dan Rivera and Brett Miller were involved in a tight match at 165. Miller got a second period takedown but Rivera was able to get a quick escape. Rivera began the third period with an escape and was able to avoid a last second takedown by Miller. In the first second victory period, Rivera caught Miller on his back and was able to get the pin with two seconds on the clock.

Tristan Warner gave ODU another overtime victory, taking down Byron Sigmon with 16 seconds left in the overtime period. With the win, Warner avenged two overtime losses to Sigmon earlier this season.

Joe Budi got a forfeit victory at 184 before Jacob Henderson earned a 2-1 decision over Caylor Williams. Williams got a second period escape, but Williams got called for fleeing the mat in the third and Henderson scored an escape to earn the 2-1 win.

Peter Sturgeon gave UNCG its second win of the match with a 5-2 decision over Grant Chapman.

Nicholson delivered five takedowns in the match opener against Binghamton, and turned the final one into a pin over Derek Steeley.

Hutter increased the Monarchs' lead to 10-0 with a 24-9 technical fall over Dan Riggi. Hutter grabbed 11 takedowns in the lopsided victory.

Binghamton was able to gain momentum, starting with an 8-3 decision by Anwar Goeres at 141 as the Bearcats won the final eight matches.

Donnie Vinson had seven takedowns at 149 en route to a 21-5 tech. fall while Matt Kaylor grabbed a 13-6 win over Chad Lowman.

The Monarchs return to action next Sunday as they host Virginia at 4:30 p.m. ODU will honor its five seniors in a pre-match ceremony.
