TUSLA, Okla. -- Senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) is one win away from reaching the qualifying bracket at the 2006 Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championship.

The fourth-year Monarch, seeded seventh in the pre-qualifying bracket, received a first round bye and earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Calle Rosen of Denver. Tomorrow he will face Andra Iriarte of N.C. State. Iriarte is one of the top 32 seeds in the pre-qualifying bracket.

Junior Rodrigo Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) reached the second round of the pre-qualifying. Souza opened play in the first round with a come from behind victory over Northwestern's Juan Gomez. After Gomez took the first set, 6-4, Souza rallied to win the next two sets, 7-5 and 6-2.

In the second round, Souza fell to Georgia Tech's David North, one of the 16 seeds in the pre-qualifying bracket. Souza dropped a 6-3, 6-2, decision.

Sophomore Alex Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic), who entered the tournament as one of the field's top 32 players, fell in the opening round with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, setback to Arizona State's Wes Miller.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships include five days of qualifying events that precede the October 5-8 main draw. A 128-player prequalifying tournament takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 1. This feeds into 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments Oct. 2-5, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws.

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May (the women's counterpart to the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships presented by Fila, is played in Pacific Palisades, Calif.).
