Top-Ranked UNC Tops No. 10 Field Hockey In Final Foreman Field Game

NORFOLK, Va. -- The top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels shutout No. 10 Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at the Lady Monarch field hockey team played its final regular season home game at Foreman Field.
The loss dropped Old Dominion to 10-8 overall while North Carolina remains undefeated at 18-0.
The Tar Heels were led by Rachel Dawson with two goals, including a stroke, and Alli Tanner scoring the game-winner.
Tanner got North Carolina onto the scoreboard 13 minutes into the game. Jesse Gay came midway through the circle and passed the ball to Tanner at the front of the ODU cage for the eventual game-winner.
The Tar Heels took a 2-0 edge in the game's 22nd minute as Dawson converted one of two North Carolina penalty strokes.
Dawson would add in an insurance goal in the lone Tar Heel tally of the second half. Dawson fired in the ball to the ODU goal off a penalty corner with Gey and Jessie Falgowski on the assists.
Old Dominion was outshot 24-3 and outcornered 11-2.
Junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made 13 saves in goal for the Lady Monarchs, tying her career mark. She also captured 13 saves in the first meeting with the Tar Heels earlier this season. Senior Sami McLenegan (Middletown, Pa.) and sophomore Hanna Warren (Green Lane, Pa.) also recorded defensive saves in the loss.
North Carolina's Brianna O'Donnell started the game, while Jackie Kintzer took over the cage for the 16:30 of play.
The Old Dominion field hockey team wraps up the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, October 27th when they travel to Williamsburg to take on William & Mary in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
