NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University wrestling team had 12 guys place in the eighth annual Cleveland State Open today.

The Monarchs received strong performances from a long list of wrestlers throughout the tournament in Cleveland, Ohio. Perhaps the highlight of the tournament was when Rob Deutsch won the 125 pound tournament. No. 14 Jerome Robinson also made it to the championship match, but removed himself from the tournament due to a 'medical forfeit'. Deutsch is coming off a 5-1 weekend at the Nittany Lion Open where he placed fifth two weekends ago. Deutsch defeated Max Soria (Buffalo) who was a NCAA qualifier in 2012.

True freshman Alexander Richardson has continued his late success on the mat by placing second in the 149 pound tournament. Brennan Brumley (149) pinned two opponents on his way to a third place finish.

Kevin Beazley, who is wrestling unattached for Old Dominion, cruised to a second place finish in the 197 pound tournament. Beazley went 4-2 at the Nittany Lion Open which was good enough for sixth place. Jacob Henderson won his first two matches in the 197 pound before he removed himself from the tournament. Henderson ended up placing sixth.

No. 24 Matt Tourdot lost a heartbreaker 3-2 in the championship match but still wrestled well enough to finish in second place. Tourdot also placed sixth at the Nittany Lion Open.

Wrestling unattached for ODU, Jack Dechow finished third for the Monarchs. Dechow has placed in every tournament that he has competed in during his freshman campaign thus far.

No. 17 Scott Festejo came back from six points in the 3rd period of the semifinal consolation bout to place fourth in the 133 pound tournament. Michael Hayes placed in fifth in the 133 pound tournament.

Chris Mecate (141) and Austin Coburn (184) both finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Mecate won the Knight Point Open and placed fifth at the Nittany Lion Open.

Old Dominion will return to the mat on Friday, Dec. 21, when they will host American University at 5 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
