Women's Rowing Takes Third at CAA Championships
FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team placed third at the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships on Sunday at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan Reservoir.
Northeastern captured the championship with 36 points. Defending champion Buffalo secured second with 25 points with Old Dominion one point behind in third with 24 points. Drexel finished fourth 19 points, Delaware (13) took fifth and George Mason (9) rounded out this year's field.
Both ODU's Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 placed second in their races. The Second Varsity 8 finished fifth in its race.
The Varsity 4 boat gave the Lady Monarchs five points with its second place finish, just two seconds behind first place Northeastern. Northeastern crossed the line in first e with a time of 7:29.2 with Old Dominion following in second with a time of 7:32.3, while Drexel clocked a 7:36.7 for third.
The Varsity 8 gave the Lady Monarchs 15 points towards its total with a second place time, five seconds behind the first place Huskies. Northeastern captured a top time of 6:30.7 while the Lady Monarchs earned runner-up honors with a time of 6:35.5 and Buffalo took third in a time of 6:38.0.
Two Lady Monarchs, senior Jennifer Easterling (Va. Beach, Va.) and sophomore Abby Voss (Alexandria, Va.), were featured on the All-CAA First Team. For Voss, it was her second All-CAA honor of her career.
