No. 49 Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season With 5-2 Win Over CAA Newcomer Georgia State

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The No. 49 Old Dominion men's tennis team concluded the 2005-06 regular season with a 23-7 overall record as they defeated CAA newcomer Georgia State, 5-2, at Huntington Park on Saturday afternoon.
The afternoon got underway with the Monarchs taking two of the three doubles matches. Harel Srugo and Alex Seleznev defeated Martin Stiegwardt and Anze Cevka at No. 1 singles, 8-3, while Herique Cancado and Eigy Igarashi teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Old Dominion took home four of the six matches. Both of the Monarchs ranked singles players registered straight set victory. No. 28 Harel Srugo, playing at the top spot, edged out Martin Stiegwardt, 6-4, 6-2, while No. 87 Eigy Igarashi downed Clarence Boyd, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Alex Seleznev and Rodrigo Souza rounded out the Monarch victories with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. Seleznev defeated the Panthers' Anze Cevek, 7-6, 6-2, while Souza overcame a first set deficit to record a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 win over Jacek Twarowski.
The Monarchs return to action April 20-23 as the begin their quest to bring home the CAA title at the 2006 CAA Tournament held at Huntington Park in Newport News.
