Lady Monarchs Return Home for Two Games this Weekend
Sept. 19, 2002
The Old Dominion women's soccer team returns home this weekend for two games after a three game road set last week. The Lady Monarchs will look to bounce back from a 0-3 road trip during which they lost 2 one-goal games, 4-3 to Campbell and 3-2 to St. John's, and were shutout by Rutgers 4-0.
Old Dominion is now 1-4 after going 0-3 in one-goal games this season. The Lady Monarch offense is being led by the play of freshmen Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) and Heather Vaughan (Va. Beach, VA). Beeman leads the team in scoring with six points, two goals and two assists, while Vaughan scored the first two goals of her career last week and now has five points.
Arkansas comes to town on Friday night for a non-conference contest at 7:00 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs, as both will be trying to end three-game losing streaks. The Lady Razorbacks are 1-6 on the year after dropping one-goal games to Kansas and Oklahoma State last weekend and being held scoreless by Oklahoma.
ODU will welcome American to the ODU Soccer Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Eagles will come in at 3-3-1 with victories over Mt. St. Mary's, UMBC, and Stony Brook. UA is 0-1-1 against CAA teams after losing to VCU and playing Towson to a tie. The Lady Monarchs are 4-2-2 all time against American, a team they have played every year since 1994. They are 3-0-1 in the last four matchups with last year's game ending in a 1-1 tie. Since 1994's 4-2 loss, ODU has allowed only three goals to the Eagles while they have netted 10 of their own.
After this weekend's action the Lady Monarchs will be home again next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to take on James Madison in their first conference match of the season.
