Hempstead, NY-The Old Dominion men's soccer team suffered their third straight loss by one goal this afternoon, falling in overtime to Hofstra at the Umbro Invitational. ODU is now 0-3 on the season while Hofstra improves to 1-2-1.
Old Dominion got on the board first in the game, as sophomore midfielder Chad Denton (Va. Beach, VA) took assists from Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY) and Ben Cummins (Queensland, Australia) and put in a header at the fourteen minute mark. The Pride tied the game just before the half, and took the lead midway through the second when Lucuisee Williams put in a header of his own to push Hofstra in front, 2-1. ODU's Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) tied the game just one minute later, and the two teams would head into overtime.
In the first overtime session, Hofstra's Patrick Geraghty was awarded a penalty kick at the 7:25 mark. Geraghty converted, and Hofstra had their first win of the season.
Hofstra held a 25-10 advantage in shots and a 12-6 advantage in corners. Monarch goalie Chad Calderone (Rockville Center, NY) made 11 saves on the day.
