NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University's T.J. Cowart was denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, ODU announced on Wednesday.

A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Cowart appeared in 35 games with the Monarchs, recording 138 tackles and two interceptions.

He will graduate in May with a degree in sport management.

"We want to thank T.J. for his accomplishments with our program. T.J. was part of the first class ever to sign with Old Dominion. As a high profile recruit from Virginia Beach with multiple scholarship offers, he helped our program recruit other top players in our first year and beyond," ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder said. "T.J. and I discussed this decision and both agree that he will focus on graduation and training for an opportunity to play at the professional level. T.J. will always be a part of the Old Dominion family."
