Three Lady Monarch Greats To Participate In WNBA All-Star Game

NORFOLK, VA. - Former Lady Monarch basketball greats Ticha Penicheiro ('98), Adrienne Goodson ('88) and Anne Donovan ('83) will be a part of the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game, July 15 in Washington, DC at the MCI Center. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Ticha Penicheiro, a 5-11 guard for the Sacramento Monarchs is averaging 11.4 points and 8.1 assists per game. As voted in by the fans, Penicheiro will be a starter for the West squad. Penicheiro leads the WNBA in assists, minutes per game (38.6), and steals (3.0).
Joining Penicheiro on the West team as a reserve is Adrienne Goodson from the Utah Starzz. The 6-0 Goodson is averaging 16.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She scored her 1,000 career point earlier this year against Houston. Goodson currently ranks seventh in the league in scoring, fifth in offensive rebounds (3.0), fifth in free throw percentage (.766) and 18th in rebounding.
Basketball Hall of Famer Anne Donovan, head coach of the Charlotte Sting will be the head coach for the East squad. Donovan's Sting reached the WNBA finals last year.
