Women's Lacrosse Topples Towson, 15-7

Towson, Md. - Sophomore Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) scored seven goals and added two assists to help Old Dominion (12-5, 5-2) top Towson University (6-7, 3-5) 15-7, in the very first meeting between the two teams in Minnegan Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers snapped a string of five-straight wins in Minnegan Stadium with the loss.

Only three players scored in the game for the Lady Monarchs, who took a commanding 6-0 lead to open the contest. Junior Danielle Hensil (Havertown, Pa) started off the scoring for Old Dominion with 4:47 in the game on an unassisted score. Hensil and Wosczyna took turns scoring the first four goals of the game with a 4-0 lead in under seven minutes of play. Senior Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, N.Y) broke into the mix for her first goal of the day, taking a pass from Hensil to extend the lead, 7-0 for the Lady Monarchs.

Tiger senior Kat Brady broke 17 scoreless minutes for the Tigers, finding the net off a feed from freshman Martha Dwyer. Brady scored the only two goals of the half for Towson, who trailed 7-2 at the break.

Wosczyna took charge for Old Dominion in the second half scoring five of eight Lady Monarch goals. Towson's Kristyn Krastel (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) scored a pair of goals for the Tigers, cutting the ODU lead to six, 11-5, with 17:12 remaining in the game. Wosczyna, Hensil, and Heister broke the Towson defense four more times before the final whistle to top the scoring at 15 for the Lady Monarchs. Brady and senior Nicole McNeil added the final two scores for Towson in the remaining ten minutes of the game.

Hensil finished with five goals and added two assists for Old Dominion and Heister notched three goals in the win. Towson's leading scorer this season, Brady led the Tigers in scoring for the third consecutive game, with three goals and one assist.

The Lady Monarchs outshot Towson 25-16. The Tigers committed 22 fouls and picked up 20 ground balls and Old Dominion caused 13 turnovers and collected 23 ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Beth O'Leary (Manlius, NY) made six saves for the win for Old Dominion. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica O' Connell stopped 12 Old Dominion shots.
