Men's Soccer Downs Delaware, 4-0

Williamsburg, VA (Sept. 9) - The Old Dominion men's soccer team earned their first win of the season on Sept. 9 with a 4-0 victory over Delaware in the Tribe Soccer Classic.

Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia) put the Monarchs on the board at 25:20 with a diving header. Vendegh would score again five minutes later on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box by a Delaware defender. Junior Carlos Mendes (Mineola, New York) and freshman Arne Hohenstein (Recklinghausen, Germany) would add on insurance goals just minutes later to seal the win for Old Dominion.

With the victory, the Monarchs improve to 1-1-1 on the year while Delaware falls to 0-4.

The Monarchs outshot Delaware 26-5 for the game and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC) picked up his first win of the year in the net for the Monarchs, while Delaware's Nick Konawalik recorded 14 saves in the loss.

Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, September 15, when they host Princeton in the Stihl Soccer Classic.

Three Monarchs earned All-Tournament honors. Brandon Baker, Anders Haugom and Attila Vendegh. Carlos Garcia of William and Mary was named the MVP.
