Monarchs To Host Marist In Bracketbuster TV Game

NORFOLK, VA--ESPN announced today that the Monarchs of Old Dominion University will host the Red Foxes of Marist, Saturday, Feb. 18th in the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Game time and ESPN channel will be announced on Feb. 7. A total of 13 games will be televised, six on ESPN or ESPN2, five on ESPNU, ESPN `s new collegiate network, and two games on ESPN 360 - - ESPN's broadband network.
The Red Foxes, located in Poughkeepsie, NY are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and are currently 12-6 overall, 6-4 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes have beaten Delaware from the CAA, 64-48; St. John's of the Big East, 56-53 and St. Bonaventure of the Atlantic 10, 69-51. The MAAC consists of Iona, Manhattan, St. Peter's, Loyola, Siena, Niagara, Canisius, Rider and Fairfield.
Marist has four players averaging in double figures. Jared Jordan, a 6-2 junior guard leads them in scoring at 15.7 and 8.1 assists per game. Will Whittington, a 6-3 junior guard is second at 14.8, while Ryan Stilphen, a 6-8 sophomore forward is at 12.2 points and 7.3 rebounds. James Smith, a 7-0, 240-pound junior center is at 12.1 points, 1.6 blocks, and 7.1 rebounds. Marist is averaging 76.4 points per game and shooting .484 from the floor.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Monarchs have played Iona (1-1), Manhattan (1-1), Loyola (5-4), Niagara (1-0), and Rider (2-0).
The Monarchs return to action this week on Thursday when they travel to Hofstra for a 7 p.m. game, then host James Madison on Saturday at 7 pm.
The 13 games that will be televised are as follows: Bucknell at Northern Iowa; George Mason at Witchita State; Missouri State at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Louisiana Tech at Southern Illinois, Buffalo at Iona, Fresno State at Creighton, Akron at Nevada, butler at Kent State, Marist at ODU, Northwestern State at Utah State; Samford at Ohio; Albany at VCU; Northern Arizona at Western Kentucky.
