Norfolk, VA-Senior forward Lucienne Berthieu (Rennes, France) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the twentieth-ranked ODU Lady Monarchs to a 72-45 victory over Delaware in a contest between two of the CAA's top teams.
In a repeat of the last time these two teams met, the Lady Monarchs put things out of reach early, racing to a 40-20 halftime lead on the strength of their inside game. Both Berthieu and sophomore Monique Coker (Bronx, NY) tallied 11 points before the half and ODU enjoyed a sizeable lead in rebounding.
The second-half proved to be no easier for the Blue Hens, who had problems handling the ball. Delaware committed 26 turnovers in the face of a smothering Lady Monarch defense, which held the Blue Hens to .326 shooting from the floor.
Overall, every Lady Monarch saw action in the game and scored at least one point. Coker tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and senior Sharron Francis scored nine points with nine assists and six steals.
Delaware was led by guard Allison Trapp, who scored 17 points.
Old Dominion shot .492 from the floor and enjoyed a 38-29 advantage in rebounding.
The Lady Monarchs will be back in action on Friday, February 15 against UNC-Wilmington.
