CAA Co-Leading Monarchs Host Hofstra Saturday Night

NORFOLK, VA-- The 11th ranked Monarchs (10-2/6-1) host the Pride Of Hofstra (6-7/3-4) in another Colonial Athletic Association match-up Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex. It is also "Kick Or Treat night" as any child dressed in a Halloween outfit will be admitted free.

The Monarchs have won six straight games, the most since 2007. ODU defeated Georgia State Wednesday night, 3-2 in overtime. ODU is tied for first with James Madison. Both teams have six conference wins and 18 points.

ODU ranks 11th by the NSCAA, 14th by College Soccer News, 15th by TopDrawerSoccer.com, and 17th by Soccer America.

Junior Yannick Smith leads the team and the CAA with 29 total points on 14 goals and one assist which also ranks fourth nationally. Sophomore Tim Hopkinson is second with 20 points on eight goals, and four assists while Gideon Asante has 19 points with a CAA best nine assists along with five goals. Freshman Ivan Militar is second on the team with five assists.

Monarch goalkeeper Victor Francoz has a 1.10 goals against average and a .794 saves percentage which is third best in the CAA.

Head coach Alan Dawson has 298 career wins in 24 seasons as a collegiate head coach.

THE SERIES VS. HOFSTRA: Hofstra leads the series, 7-6-2. The Pride defeated ODU, 1-0 in New York last season. The two tied in 2009 and Hofstra won in 2008. ODU beat the Pride in 2007.

Hofstra is led offensively by sophomore forward Chris Griebsch with 11 points on five assists and three goals. Sophomore Shaun Foster and senior Brett Carrington both have three goals, while Shady2 Saleh is second in assists with three.

Hofstra's sophomore goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini leads the CAA in saves with 69 and has a 1.57 goals against average.
