Lady Monarchs Fall In Opening Round Of USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship

MADISON, WI -- The Old Dominion women's tennis team fell 6-1 to sixth ranked Tennessee in first round of the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship. Doubles team Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel) and Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) and third singles player Mily Kannarkat (Va. Beach, VA) were each victorious on the afternoon.

The Lady Vols, who featured four ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams, were winners in five of the six singles match-ups. Sixteenth ranked Alison Ojeda upset fifth ranked Lady Monarch Cahana at first singles with a 7-5, 6-0 score. Kannarkat picked up Old Dominion's lone victory in singles with a 7-5, 6-2 win over 66th ranked Kim Gates.

In doubles, sixthteenth ranked Cahana and Radeljevic earned a 8-5 victory at first doubles over 12th ranked Crystal Cleveland and Alison Ojeda.

The Lady Monarchs, who are making their first ever appearance in the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship, will play Baylor in the consolation bracket.
