Srugo Reaches Virginia Invite Finals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Old Dominion sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) picked up two wins on Saturday at the University of Virginia Men's Tennis Invitational to advance to the orange singles bracket final.
Srugo, ranked 18th in the Preseason ITA Poll and seeded second, defeated Chris Clayton of Harvard, 6-1, 6-1, in the day's quarterfinals and then earned a 7-6, 6-1 decision over #111 Dylan Arnould of Duke. Arnould is the fourth ranked opponent to fall to Srugo this fall. The final will feature Srugo and top seed Todd Paul of Wake Forest. Paul is ranked 14th in the ITA Poll.
Paul advanced to the final after defeated the Monarchs' Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) in the orange bracket semifinals. After defeating Arvid Puranen, the bracket's fourth seeded and ITA's 34th ranked men's tennis player, for the second consecutive weekend, Cancado advanced to the semifinals against Paul where he fell 6-2, 6-0.
In other singles action, junior Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) went 1-1 in the consolation bracket in blue singles. Igarashi knocked off Damar Johnson in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-2, but fell to #111 Kiril Dimitrov of Duke, 7-6, 6-2.
In doubles action, #52 Srugo/Cancado reached the blue doubles bracket semifinals. After a hard fought 9-7 first round win over Penn's Jason Pinsky/Jonathan Boym, the Monarch duo's run ended with an 8-5 loss to Western Michigan's Brady Crosby/Tim Bradshaw.
