Four Incoming Monarch Wrestlers Earn National All-America Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – After all five members of the incoming 2012 Old Dominion University Wrestling class won state championships in their respective weight classes in February, four of the incoming signees earned All-America status including a national championship over the weekend.
Competing at the top two national tournaments for high school seniors in the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Seniors Tournament in Virginia Beach and the 2012 FloNationals Senior Tournament in Philadelphia, all five incoming Monarchs were in action between the two tournaments.
Winning a national title at 145 pounds at the NHSCA Nationals was Lenny Richardson (West Orange, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) while Kevin Beazley (Novi, Mich./Novi Detroit Catholic Central) took runner-up at 182 pounds at FloNationals. Jack Dechow (Richmond, Ill./Richmond Burton HS) at 182 pounds in the NHSCA Nationals and Micah Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) at 160 pounds in FloNationals each took home third place in their respective weight classes.
Micah Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) went 6-1 at the FloNationals at 160 pounds to claim third place. He picked up a pair of falls over the weekend while defeating opponents from Indiana, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Ohio. After a tough loss by a point to a Georgia foe in the semifinals, Barnes rallied in the consolations to pin a senior from Pennsylvania and earn a 4-1 victory over an opponent from New Jersey in the third place title match.
Kevin Beazley (Novi, Mich./Novi Detroit Catholic Central) pinned each of his first two opponents from New York and California at 182 pounds in the FloNationals. He then earned a win over an opponent from Pennsylvania, pinned his opposition from North Carolina and earned a 9-5 win over a foe from Delaware. Beazley lost a tough match in the finals to a senior from California, 8-4, to go 5-1 in the tournament and finish runner-up.
Jack Dechow (Richmond, Ill./Richmond Burton HS) pinned his first two opponents from Virginia and New York at 182 pounds. After defeating his next opponent from Ohio, Dechow lost by just a single point in a thriller in the semifinals but gathered himself to defeat a senior from Kansas to claim the third place match with a 6-4 win as he went 4-1 in the NHSCA Nationals.
Joe Jessen (Winchester, Va./Milbrook HS) went 4-2 at 195 pounds in the NHSCA Nationals and came just one match short of qualifying for All-America status. He defeated opponents from Maryland, New York, South Carolina and pinned his opponent from South Dakota in the tournament.
Lenny Richardson (West Orange, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) went a perfect 6-0 in the NHSCA National en route the championship at 145 pounds. Collecting a fall and two major decisions over the weekend, Richardson defeated opponents from West Virginia, Michigan, Virginia, Iowa, Washington and Illinois.
