NORFOLK, VA (Feb. 5, 2001) -- The University of Virginia won four of the last five matches to post a 24-12 decision over host Old Dominion this evening. Old Dominion drops to 5-5 on the season while UVA improves to 5-5 overall.

The Monarchs started off on the right foot as junior Jeff Rusak (Reading, PA), sophomore Charlie Busch (Rochester, MN), and freshman Derrell Lorthridge (Wilmington, DE) all picked up wins early on as Old Dominion climbed to a 9-6 lead.

A pin at 133 by Virginia's Joe Alexander put the Cavaliers back on top 12-9, and the visitors stretched the lead by picking up a pair of decisions at 141 and 149. Monarch sophomore Jesse Pearce (Norfolk, VA) defeated Don Carlo-Clauss at 157 to cut the UVA lead to 18-12, but Cavalier Gregory Francesca killed hopes of a comeback with a pin at 165.

Old Dominion will return to action on Friday, February 9, when they travel to CAA foe Campbell.
