The Monarchs finished second in the Hall of Fame Basketball Tip-Off Classic, Losing to second ranked Kentucky in the finals, 62-52. College Sports Madness named Dimitri Batten CAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Battenscored 16 points against LIU and 12 against South Florida. During that week, Chris Cooper led ODU with 12.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as he had double-doubles against both Kentucky with 17 points and 12 rebounds, 10 points and 11 boards vs. LIU and 13 points and 10 rebounds against Howard. He was named CAA Player of The Week, while Ken Bazemore was named to the HOF All-Tournament team.

ODU leads 1-0
The only meeting between the two was in the 1979-80 Kiwanis ODU Classic at Norfolk Scope. ODU won, 94-81. Tonight's game is part of the HOF Tip-Off Tournament. Vermont lost to South Florid 61-59, beat Marist, 84-75 and lost to Long Island, 80-75.
