The Old Dominion women's soccer team was defeated by N.C. State 1-0 on Saturday.

The Lady Monarchs created several opportunities to score but couldn't find an equalizer to the Wolfpack's early goal. N.C State's Adrienne Barnes scored just after the 7th minute and a trio of Wolfpack goalies made it stand. ODU's best opportunity came with just minutes left on the clock when freshman Laura Beeman (Chalfont, PA) broke free and shot the ball just over the crossbar.

Junior Kristen Bailey (Hamilton, VA) played tough after coming in at halftime to turn away seven shots, including several in one on one chances. Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) recovered from the early goal to make three saves and keep N.C. State off the board for the rest of the period. Altogether both goalies and the rest of the Lady Monarch defense only allowed one goal in two preseason games.

Old Dominion will next play host to UNC Greensboro, their third opponent in a row from North Carolina, this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to open the regular season.
