May 28, 2003
NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion University women's lacrosse junior midfielder Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA.) was named to the IWLCA/US Lacrosse third team All-American squad. The three-time All-CAA, and two-time CAA All-Tournament honoree, averaged 6.42 points and 2.67 assists per game to lead the nation in both categories.
Wosczyna becomes the third Lady Monarch to earn All-American honors in back-to- back seasons. Ericka Davidheiser ('95), who was inducted last month into the ODU Sports Hall of Fame was a first team selection in 1994 and 1995, and Anne Windover was an honorable mention selection in 1993 and second team selection in 1994. Last year, Wosczyna was a second team All-American selection.
Wosczyna, who became ODU's all-time leading scorer in just her third season on the squad, helped lead the Laldy Monarch women's lacrosse squad to a 12-4 overall mark and the finals of the CAA Tournament for the second straight season.
A Tewaaraton Trophy nominee for the nation's top women's lacrosse player, Wosczyna holds the 2003 single game high in points with 12, scoring six goals and six assists in ODU's conference win over Drexel back on April 11th.
The junior midfielder accumulated 77 points in 2003 with 45 goals and 32 assists and holds a career mark of 149 points, 91 goals, and 240 assists. She recorded five or more points in a single game on eight occasions this year, tallied three-game winners and scored at least one goal and one assists in her 12 appearances.
Wosczyna is one of five CAA players to earn All-American honors. Also named were Lisa Staedt of JMU (1st team), Gail Decker(JMU) and Jill of George Mason, on second team, while Hofstra's Kathleen Mikowski was a third team selection.
