Women's Lacrosse Squares Off Against Delaware and Towson This Weekend

Norfolk, VA -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team will round out their regular season home games when they host conference rivals Delaware on Friday, April 16th at 3:00 p.m. and Towson on Sunday, April 18th at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's match-up with Towson will be the annual Scholarship Game with the five dollar admission to benefit the Intercollegiate Foundation for Women's Lacrosse Scholarships.
The Fightin' Blue Hens enter Fridays match-up with a 3-9 overall record and 1-4 in the CAA. Delaware is coming off a 9-10 loss to George Mason this past Sunday. The Blue Hens are paced by Mich Campolettano who has 18 goals and ten assists totaling 28 points. Following closely behind with 27 points are Jenny Diana (21 goals, six assists) and Shannon Kron (15 goals and 12 assists). In the net for the Blue Hens is Patrice Hughes who has a .443 save percentage and a 10.96 goal against average.
The Towson Tigers enter Sundays match-up with a 9-3 overall record and a 3-1 CAA record. The Tigers are currently in second place CAA after losing to James Madison 5-15 on April 13th. Before traveling to Old Dominion the Tigers will battle William and Mary on Friday as Old Dominion faces off against Delaware. The Tigers have won four of their last five games scoring at least eight goals each contest.
Leading the way for the Tigers is Shannon Witzel, 27 goals and eight assists totally 35 points. Witzel is supported by Becky Trumbo, 23 goals, five assists, and Amy Middleton with 20 goals and five assists. Middleton also leads the team with 25 ground balls. Also contributing to the Towson offense are Caitlin Marshall who has 19 goals and five assists, and Stephanie Howell who ten goals and three assists respectfully. In goal for Towson is Jessica O'Connell who has seen over 600 minutes in net boasts a .531 save percentage and 9.13 goals against average.
The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 7-11lose to North Carolina on Wednesday. Old Dominion is lead by senior Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) with 34 goals and 20 assists for 54 points. The Monarch's also are counting on junior Melody Shotwell (Fairfax Station, VA) and senior Janine Rodriguez for extra support. Shotwell has 26 goals and five assists totaling 31 points and Rodriguez has 19 assists and ten assists tallying 29 points.
At the conclusion of the game against the Towson Tigers, the Lady Monarchs along with the Hampton Roads Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse will be hosting a clinic for girls interested in lacrosse and improving their skills. For more information, log on to www.hrlax.com.
