Wright Leads Monarchs Over Tribe, 70-51

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Nick Wright scored 14 points and 10 of Old Dominion's 11 players scored in a 70-51 rout of William & Mary on Wednesday night.
The Monarchs now lead the Optima Health Challenge athletic competition between the two schools, 50-30.
It was the eighth straight win over William & Mary for the Monarchs, who shot 62.5 percent in the first half (15 of 24) to lead 41-22 at the break.
Leading 8-7, Old Dominion took over early scoring 10 straight points on a 3-pointer and three consecutive layups. The last turned into a three-point play on Wright's free throw with 15:32 left until halftime.
The Tribe cut the lead to 29-22 after two Quinn McDowell free throws with 4:52 left in the half, but the Monarchs outscored them 12-0 for the 41-22 halftime lead.
The Tribe, which would trail by as many as 32 twice, got no closer than seven the rest of the way.
William & Mary (4-22, 2-12), which didn't have a double-figure scorer, shot just 28.8 percent from the field (15 of 25).
Wright led ODU with eight rebounds along with two blocked shots, followed by freshman Jason Pimentel with six boards. Kent Bazemore dished out a game high nine assists. Nick Wright was six-for-seven fromt the field.
This was the fourth time this season, ODU has shot over 50 percent from the floor, while the Tribe shot 288. This is the second straight Monarch opponent to shoot under 30 percent (Mason was held to .277) and the 11th to be held under 40 percent this season.
The Monarchs host CAA archrival VCU Saturday at 2 p.m. in a Comcast TV broadcast. This contest will be ODU's fourth sellout of the season.
