SUFFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion football's Matt Carrillo (La Miranda, Calif.) and Andrew Turner (Va. Beach, Va.) were among the presenters at Elephant's Fork Elementary School's career day in Suffolk on Friday.

Carrillo, a redshirt junior tight end majoring in communications, and Turner, a redshirt freshman defensive end majoring in sports medicine, shared their experiences as student-athletes with third, fourth, and fifth graders about playing sports in college, the path needed to get them there, and the importance of getting an education.

Carrillo and Turner were both instrumental members in Old Dominion's first season of football, which saw Monarchs finish at 9-2 overall.

Carrillo started all 11 contests capturing a pair of touchdowns. The La Miranda, California native had touchdown receptions in wins over Virginia Union and Presbyterian and recorded his longest reception of the year on 15-yard catch at Savannah State.

Turner also started all 11 contests and was among the Monarchs' top defenders with 45 tackles (26 solo, 19 asst.) and six tackles for loss, which pushed opponents back a total of 35 yards in the fall. Turner was also tied for the Monarch leaders in sacks in 2009.

The Old Dominion football team will open Spring Practice on March 26th.
