Lady Monarchs Drop Home Opener to UNC-Greensboro, 1-0 in OT

NORFOLK, VA -- A goal by Amy Carnell off a corner kick, late in the first overtime period, carried UNC-Greensboro to victory over Old Dominion Friday night at the ODU Soccer Stadium, giving the Spartans the 1-0 win. ODU drops to 0-1 for the season, while the Spartans are now 1-0.
After a scoreless regulation, Amy Carnell scored the game-winning goal with just 1:07 left in the first overtime period for UNC-Greensboro, off a corner kick. Carnell was assisted by Rakel Logadettir.
The Lady Monarchs had a solid performance, with eight shots, compared to UNC-Greensboro's four. The ODU defense allowed the Spartans to take only four shots all night, including the game-winner in the overtime period. Stephanie Miller (Plymouth Meeting, PA) ended up with three saves in 98:53 of action. Meredith Worsley (Durham, NC), Becca McLain (Virginia Beach, VA) and Bea Gugliotti (Avon, CT) all had two shots each for the Lady Monarchs during the match.
ODU returns to action Sunday afternoon, when they host Longwood. Game time is at 1:00 PM.
