Old Dominion Announces 2001 Wrestling Recruits

OLD DOMINION ANNOUNCES WRESTLING RECRUITS
Norfolk, VA-The Old Dominion University wrestling program has announced their 2001 wrestling recruits.
Mike Yetter, a two-time state place-winner for Stroudsburg HS in Pennsylvania, will be wrestling at 285 for the Monarchs. Yetter comes to ODU with 110 career wins.
Billy Wilbert, from Toms River South HS in New Jersey, will wrestle at 197. Wilbert finished fourth in states at Toms River South.
Ben Summerlin, a transfer from Division II Longwood, finished second at the Virginia Intercollegiate Championships and will push for time at 174.
John Adams, from Deep Creek HS in Chesapeake, Virginia, will wrestle at 165. Adams took fifth place at states and recently won the Virginia Freestyle State Tournament.
Newcomers Casey Todd and Brad Alford will push for time at 149. Todd was a two-time Section Nine champ and two-time state qualifier at Monroe Woodbury HS in Monroe, NY. Alford was the state runner-up at 149 in Pasco HS in Dade City, Florida.
Local products Chris Buckner and John Starks will compete for time at 125. Buckner finished third at states this year for Deep Creek and won the Virginia Freestyle states in April. He also went 5-2 at the Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND for Team Virginia.
Starks, a transfer from Williamson College in Iowa, is originally from Oscar Smith HS in Chesapeake, VA. While at Oscar Smith, he was state finalist in 2000.
The Monarchs finished 7-6 last season with a fourth-place finish in the CAA. Old Dominion's first home event this year will be the Old Dominion Invitational, held on November 17.
