Charlottesville, Va. -- Junior Henrique Cancado (Belo HOrizonte, Brazil) reached the quarterfinals of the Flight A bracket at the 2005 University of Virginia Men's Tennis Invitational highlighting the Monarch results during day.

Cancado, ranked 99th, defeated Brandon Allen of Middle Tennessee in his third round appearance in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, setting up a showdown with CAA rival and the country's eighth ranked player in the country in Arnaud Lecloerec in the quarterfinals. Lecloerec would go on to advance defeating Cancado, 6-4, 6-3.

In the day's other results, sophomore Eidy Igarashi (São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) fell in his third round match falling in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 to Tim Krebs of Miami. Krebs is ranked 62nd in the nation.

In the Monarchs doubles appearance, Igarashi and Cancado fought a tough opening round match with 33rd-ranked Sasha Ermkov and Ashwin Kumar of Harvard, falling 9-7. Ermkov and Kumar were the tournament's fourth seed.

The Monarch men's tennis team will return to action at the ITA All-American Championship held in Tulsa, Oklahoma next weekend.
