Monarch Soccer Signs Top Forward
April 18, 2003
Head Coach Alan Dawson has announced the signing of Edson Elcock, a senior forward from Brooklyn Friends School in New York, to a letter of intent. Elcock is the fourth player to sign with the ODU soccer program for the 2003 season.
Elcock, a forward originally from Port of Spain, Trinidad, was selected All-Conference as a sophomore and junior after leading his Brooklyn Friends team to league championships both years. He scored 31 goals in 2002 taking his team to the State Final, following that up with 27 tallies as a senior. Elcock won the New York State Championship with his club team, the Silver Lake Rams, a Region 1 Olympic Development Team based in Staten Island, NY. He also helped lead the Brooklyn Friends School basketball team to a State Championships this past season.
"I just felt Old Dominion was the place for me to be. Coach (Alan) Dawson seemed very genuine and has been honest with me from the beginning. I am definitely looking forward to playing with Attila Vendegh (ODU's star forward) and learning from the guys on the team," said Elcock.
"We are very happy to have Edson as part of the soccer family. We believe not only is he one of the top forwards in the country but also a wonderful person who will fit in well in the Old Dominion family," said Dawson.
Elcock chose Old Dominion over Division I schools such as St. John's and Connecticut. He joins earlier signed recruits Eric Hoglund (Fairfax County, VA), Gregg Mottinger (Carrollton, TX), and Ross McKenzie (Richmond, VA).
