No. 2 North Carolina Defeats No. 7 Lady Monarchs, 4-1

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarch field hockey team, ranked seventh nationally in the latest STX/NFHCA Polls, fell to the second-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Foreman Field in ODU's second to last regular season home game. The game will be televised nationally by College Sports Television (CSTV) on November 4th at 8:00 p.m.
Sophomore Rosanna Delutis (Va. Beach, Va.) scored Old Dominion's lone goal of the afternoon to thwart the potential Tar Heel shutout. Delutis tallied her second goal of the year with just six seconds remaining in the game.
North Carolina controlled the game, scoring twice in each half. Leading scorer, senior forward Kelsey Keeran, opened scored four minutes into the contest, while junior forward Karen Mann added in the second goal of the first half at the 17 minute mark.
In the second half, sophomore midfielder Ashley Judge send the ball flying into the Lady Monarch cage from the top of the circle with 27:36 remaining. Senior midfielder Laura Douglas added in the Tar Heel's fourth and final goal off a penalty stroke as 18:13 remained on the clock.
North Carolina outshot the Lady Monarchs 14-7, while Old Dominion outcornered the Tar Heels, 7-5.
In between the pipe, sophomore netminder Mary Cate Gordon (Oreland, Pa.) recorded six saves for Old Dominion. The Tar Heels' Katy Tran made four stops.
The Lady Monarchs return to action tomorrow in their regular season finale. Old Dominion hosts Princeton at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field. Prior to the game, Old Dominion's two seniors, Lynn Farquhar (Alexandria, Va.) and Beth Maddox (Va. Beach, Va.) will be honored.
