AKRON, Ohio. - Redshirt senior Kyle Hutter (Mokena, Ill.) posted a 6-1 record to claim second at the ASICA University Nationals, held April 9-11 at the University of Akron.
Hutter, a two-time NCAA qualifier, competed in the freestyle wrestling 60 Kg (132.25 lbs) weight class.
Hutter proved to be dominate in his first four bouts, registering falls in three of the four. A semifinal decision over 2008 NCAA All-American Mike Grey of Cornell advanced the redshirt senior to the finals, where he lost a decision to champion Tyler Graff of Wisconsin (2010 NCAA All-American).
Hutter won by decision over Drexel's Steve Mytych in the ture second-place match.
With the second-place finish, Hutter will enter the challenge tournament for the University World Team Trials May 28-29 in Colorado Springs, Colo as the No. 1 seed. The winner of that tournament will wrestle the University Nationals Champion, Tyler Graff in a best-of-three matchup for the world team spot.
Also, with his second-place University Nationals finish, Hutter automatically qualifies for the senior world team trial June 10-12 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
