Monarchs Drop American, 28-15 for First CAA Win

NORFOLK, VA (Jan. 27, 2001) -- The Old Dominion wrestling team defeated CAA foe American tonight, 28-15, to improve their record to 5-3 overall, 1-0 CAA.

The Monarchs, who defeated VMI last night, withstood a late rally by the Eagles and benefitted from a late forfeit to preserve the win. Freshman Blake Romano (Boiling Springs, PA) notched another pin and junior Jeff Rusak (Reading, PA) picked up his 24th victory of the season. Rusak is currently 24-3, and is still undefeated in dual competition over three seasons.

Old Dominion will return to action on Saturday, February 3, when they host CAA foe James Madison.
