Cancado, Igarashi End Run At 2005 All-American Championship

TULSA, Okla. -- Junior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and sophomore Eidy Igarashi's(São José do Rio Preto, Brazil) run at the 2005 Ralph Lauren All-American Championships being held on the campus of the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Both Monarch men's tennis player reached the Round of 64 in singles and the Round of 32 in doubles of the qualifying brackets.
In singles, Ivan Bjelica of Mississippi State needed three sets and two tie-breaks to get past Cancado, 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(4). Igarashi, who yesterday upset the #101 player in the ITA rankings, fell to #70 Andrew Hammar of Wake Forest, 6-3, 7-6(3).
Doubles action in the qualifying bracket also began today with Cancado and Igarashi going 1-1. The duo earned a 9-7 victory in the Round 64 over Georgia's Ricardo Gonzalez and Matic Omerzel before falling by the same score to Duke's 46th-ranked Peter Rodrigues and Ludovic Walter.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2005-06 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
The Monarchs will return to action in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational of Newport News next weekend.
