Van Der Merwe Named CAA Men's Tennis Tournament Most Outstanding Player

RICHMOND, VA -- The CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Year, Izak van der Merwe, was also named the CAA Men's Tennis Tournament's Most Outstanding Player it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Van der Merwe, ranked 23rd in the country, has compiled a 29-10 overall singles mark and went 2-0 against ranked opponents during the CAA Tournament in late April. The Monarchs' top singles player defeated William & Mary's 58th ranked Jeff Kader, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals and downed Virginia Commonwealth's 39th ranked Pedro Nieto, 6-4, 6-4, in the CAA Championship game.
The #55 Old Dominion men's tennis team concluded the regular season 14-10 and is waiting to see if they will be among the 64 teams heading to the NCAA Tournament when team pairings are announced on Wednesday afternoon. Singles and doubles pairings, which should include van der Merwe in both single and doubles action along with doubles partner Zoltan Csanadi, will be announced on Thursday. Csanadi and van der Merwe, who boast a 11-5 record are currently ranked 15th in the country according to the latest ITA Poll.
