Delaware Downs Lady Monarch Lax, 15-3

NEWARK, Del. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-3 defeat at the hands of the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens on Friday evening at Rullo Stadium to fall to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
The Lady Monarchs' sophomore Colleen Carver (Catonsville, Md.) tallied the first Lady Monarch goal with 28:28 remaining in the first half to tie the game at 1-1, but from there Delaware would go on to score seven unasnwered goals for an 8-1 advantage with 7:15 left in the half. ODU managed another tally before the half's end with 15 seconds left off a free position attempt from sophomore Katie Veneziale (Downingtown, Pa.), but the Fightin' Blue Hens found the back of the Lady Monarch net as time expired in half number one to hold a 9-2 lead at the intermission.
Delaware continued its scoring barrage in the second half, outscoring the Lady Monarchs 6-1. ODU's lone goal of the half came from sophomore Ashley Stanwick (Aquasco, Md.) with 23:10 left in the game to bring the score 11-3.
The Blue Hens were led by Casey McCrudden with four goals and Kristin Cellucci and Becky Rausa with three.
The Lady Monarchs were outshot 35-15, while the Lady Monarchs held a 22-20 advantage in groundballs. Additionally, the Fightin' Blue Hens owned the draw collecting 14 of the night's 19 draws.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Sunday when they travel to nationally ranked Towson at 1:00 p.m.
