Press Conference:

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion Athletic and Norfolk State University announced jointly today that the football series between the two school has changed to a new two-year home and home arrangement.

"While we regret that due to ODU's pending transition to CUSA and FBS football we are unable to fulfill the original six-year football contract between ODU and NSU, this new two year home and home arrangement supports the philosophical scheduling commitment initially extended by both institutions to each other," said Old Dominion Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig.

"This agreement provides the opportunity for our fans to see two outstanding football teams compete against each other in 2013 and 2015," added Norfolk State Athletic Director Marty Miller. "I have been looking forward to playing these games since signing the original agreement. This is a win-win situation for the student-athletes, fans, institutions and Hampton Roads community."

The Monarchs will travel to William "Dick" Price Stadium on Norfolk State's campus on October 26, 2013 and will host the Spartans at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium on September 12, 2015. This new contract will replace the six-year home and home contract originally entered into by both schools through the 2018 season.

"Playing at Norfolk State allows our fans to conveniently attend an away football game while minimizing our program's travel expenses," added Selig. "Additionally, playing Norfolk State at home in 2015 assists us in piecing together our critical non-conference schedule for the first season we will be eligible to play in a bowl game and compete for the C-USA Football Championship."

"I am excited for our players and fans to continue our rivalry with Norfolk State," said Old Dominion head coach Bobby Wilder. "Our football program has tremendous respect for NSU and their coach Pete Adrian. I am hopeful everyone involved will have the same approach to this two game series as they did to our playoff game."

Old Dominion and Norfolk State faced each other in the first round of the Division I Football Championship playoffs last season with the Monarchs advancing to the second round with a 35-18 victory over the MEAC Champions.

"I think this is a great arrangement for our fans and the community," said Norfolk State head coach Pete Adrian. "We're very excited to be able to host ODU at our stadium next year and look forward to the new two-year series."

"I certainly appreciate Marty Miller's willingness to support this two year home and home series as it certainly is a win-win for both institutions," said Selig.
