From The Desk Of Bobby Wilder: Defend Our House
Sept. 21, 2009
What an incredible win for your football team this past Saturday in Jacksonville!! You would have been proud of your team and how they battled thru adversity for three hours. We faced a team that won their league championship last year and had not lost a home game in two years. On top of that, the heat index was 113 degrees for the three hours we played the game. We were down 13-0 in the first quarter, 20-7 at halftime, and 27-14 with 14 minutes to go in the game.
What I am most proud of as the head coach, is our players simply "REFUSED TO LOSE" this game!! They believed in themselves and their coaches. The post-game celebration we had with the close to 1,000 Monarch fans that made the trip was another memorable moment our team will not forget.
We are excited to be back this weekend to "OUR HOUSE" with Monarch Nation. We cannot wait to see you all at the Monarch March at 3:40pm Saturday to "SLAP YOU A HIGH-FIVE", and then again from 6-9 p.m. when we all "ROCK THE HOUSE" vs. Monmouth. We need you to be" LOUD AND PROUD" for this week's game. Monmouth is a good team. They are well coached, disciplined, and play hard for 60 minutes.
We need you all to add to your penalty total of 15 in the first two home games. Believe me when I say, "THE NOISE LEVEL HAS MADE THE DIFFERENCE" with our first two home opponents. Chowan and Virginia Union had a difficult time checking plays on offense when you rose to your feet as one to support our defense. You made a difference in our first two wins. You are the 12th Monarch on the field!!!
As I type this message I am proudly wearing my 12th Monarch t-shirt. They are on sale now at the ODU University Village Bookstore and will be on sale Saturday at the game. I hope you all get one and join me in defending "OUR HOUSE" on Saturday!!!
