Women's Lacrosse Gets First Win, 10-9 Over Richmond

NORFOLK, VA (Mar. 15) -- #20 Old Dominion University topped Colonial Athletic Association foe Richmond, 10-9, at Foreman Field on the campus of Old Dominion University. With the win, the Lady Monarchs improve to 1-2 overall (1-0 CAA). The Spiders are 2-3 overall/0-1 CAA. Freshman Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, Md.) paced the Old Dominion scoring attack with three goals on the afternoon. Junior attack Dana Wisniewski (Collegeville, Pa.) added a pair of goals and assist for the winners.

Old Dominion jumped out to a quick 2-0 goal before Richmond tied the game at two. The two teams exchanged goals the rest of the way. After taking a slim 10-9 lead, the Lady Monarchs played staunch defense. Junior goalkeeper Laurie Koller (Collegeville, Pa.) collected seven saves, including a superb effort with less than one minute in regulation, preserving the win.

Old Dominion will host a pair of games this weekend, taking on Rutgers Saturday at 1 pm and Temple Sunday at 12 noon.
