NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's basketball team will look to rebound from its first Colonial Athletic Association loss of the season as the Lady Monarchs host Towson on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The contest will air on STAR 1310 AM with Tony Mercurio providing the play-by-play and Susan Montgomery giving color analysis. Fans are also reminded that Sunday is Big Blue birthday celebration and all in attendance can join the ODU mascot as he celebrates with free ice cream and cake one hour before tip.
The Lady Monarchs will be facing Towson for the second time this season as ODU upended the Tigers in Maryland, 69-63, on January 2. Old Dominion was led by the return of senior Alena Voronina, who scored a career-high 25 points in her first game back from injury.
Old Dominion (11-6, 5-1 CAA) saw its five-game win streak snapped Thursday against VCU and is currently in a four-way tie atop the CAA standings. The loss to the Rams denied Lady Monarch head coach Wendy Larry her 600th career win, but Sunday will provide another opportunity for the legendary coach to become the 20th all-time Division I coach to reach the 600-win plateau.
Towson (7-10, 1-5 CAA) has dropped five of its last six games, but its lone win in that time frame came against VCU at home. Five Tigers scored in double figures in the meeting between ODU and Towson on January 2. Senior forward Dovile Miliauskaite paced the team with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Towson is 3-5 on the road this season and winless in two road CAA games thus far. Sheree Ledbetter is the lone Tiger averaging double-figures in scoring at 10.0 points per game.
Fans are also reminded that your ticket to the women's basketball game allows you to stay for the second half of the doubleheader with wrestling taking on George Mason at 5:30 p.m.
