Monarchs Swim Team Finishes Sixth at Maryland Invite/Lady Monarchs Fifth

The Old Dominion swimming and diving team competed in the University of Maryland Invite this week with the men's team coming in sixth while the women came in fifth. The hosts finished first in both divisions.
The University of Richmond women finished second with 847 points, followed by West Chester University in third with 647 points and William and Mary in fourth with 512 points. James Madison, Old Dominion and Drexel rounded out the final team rankings with 317, 134 and 83 points, respectively.
On the men's side, West Chester University finished second behind the Terrapins with 930 points, followed by James Madison in third place with 839 points. William and Mary, Drexel and Old Dominion rounded out the men's team rankings with 568, 301 and 225 points, respectively.
Top ten finishers for ODU in the tournament included Jessica Miller (Fairfax, VA) who came in ninth in the 200 yd breaststroke with a time 2:22.7. Sophomore Ryan Stoner (Va. Beach, VA) also competed well in the breaststroke, finishing sixth at 2:11. Liane Publow (Las, Vegas, NV) racked up a sixth place finish in the 200 yd butterfly. Also, the 400 freestlye relay team, Brian Julich, Ian Smith (Hampton, VA), Ryan Ashby, and Paul McGraw (Va. Beach, VA), finished sixth at 3:10.32.
Ashby was also 12th in the 100 yard freestlye with a time of 47.1 seconds.
Both teams compete again on December 7th when they host George Washington and Drexel in their first home event on the year.
