Jason Pimentel and Breon Key will join the Monarch family in 2011 NORFOLK, VA--ODU Head Basketball coach Blaine Taylor announced the signing of two players to National Letters of intent today, 6-2, 175-pound guard Breon Key (Hampton, VA.) and 6-8, 230-pound forward Jason Pimentel (Ocala, FL.) will join the Monarch family for 2010-11.

" I think this group of young men fits us, and our roster, and I think we have the things they were looking for. All of the kids are good students, they are very personable, polite young men, yet they have an ambitious edge to them which is something that kind of personifies our program," Taylor said. "They bring a physical prowess be it speed, size, skill which will mix with our setting well and I believe all of them will have the kind of futures that will keep our program strong."

Key, a defensive standout helped lead nearby Phoebus High School to a 25-3 record as he averaged 9.3 points, 4.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. Key was second team All-District Selection last year, and was the team MVP and top defensive player. He also was named MVP In a showcase game in Dudley HS Richmond. Key helped lead the Phantoms to two straight State football championships as a cornerback and receiver.

"ODU is a great fit for me and my family," said Key. "The school is close to home, the campus life is great and the people at ODU are outstanding. I want to be the best leader I can be."

TAYLOR ON KEY "The more we observed Breon the more we felt he was a solid fit for us. He has bonus size and speed. I think he will be a very coachable young man and quite honestly, I was drawn to a little tougher guy and that is exhibited by the fact he plays football. We will have Breon at the guard position and with his size and length he will fit into a lot of our defensive schemes as well as being a good shooter."

JAMES DANIELS ON KEY "I think ODU and Breon is a great fit and I'm so proud of him. He will bring another dimension to Monarch basketball. We have been treated to a great young man and basketball player and Old Dominion will also be in for the same treat."

Also joining the Monarchs in 2011 will be Jason Pimentel from Trinity Catholic. He averaged 20.6 points, 10.4 rebounds per game and was named county Player of the Year by the Ocala Star-Banner. This year, Pimentel will play for Montverde Academy in Montverde, FL, coached by Kevin Sutton who was an ODU assistant from 1999-2001. He also played on a national stage This summer with the Florida Rams travel basketball team.

"Old Dominion has a winning tradition and an outstanding university," said Pimentel. When You graduate you leave with a great degree, and that's important."

TAYLOR ON PIMENT

EL "Jason fits the mold of our front line with nice size and girth. He's skilled and I still believe he has a chance to grow some as his dad is about three inches taller than he is. He is a guy that with the graduation of Gerald Lee last year along with Keyon Carter and Frank Hassell this year would give us some young size to come in and bolster up our frontline presence."

KEVIN SUTTON ON PIMENTEL

"Jason is quality young man who will be a tremendous asset to the ODU family and program. as a player he is a relentless rebounder, runs the floor extremely well and plays with a lot of energy. He is committed to his academics and a leader."
