Banuelos Earns Second CAA Rookie Of The Week Award

NORFOLK, VA -- Freshman Rosalinda "Chilly" Banuelos (Escondido, CA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Rookie of the Week it was announced today by the league office. It marks Banuelos' second weekly award.

Banuelos, who is the first two-time honoree this season, scored a goal and added in an assist in Old Dominion's 4-0 shutout over William and Mary on Sunday. The win improved the Lady Monarchs to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAA and gave Old Dominion its third shutout of the season. She scored the game-winner just 1:36 into the contest and assisted on the second goal of the game.

Banuelos' first CAA Rookie of the Week accolade came during the first week of the season. During that week, Banuelos helped the Lady Monarchs to season opening wins over Michigan State (3-2) and Kent State (6-2) as a key factor in Old Dominion's 30 penalty corners.

The Lady Monarch field hockey team returns home for three games this week. On Thursday night, Old Dominion continues CAA play by hosting #4 James Madison at 6:30 p.m. CAA play will continue against Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Monarchs also host #11 Virginia on Sunday, also at 1:00 p.m.
