Box Score

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Lady Monarchs lacrosse team, unbeaten after the first four games of the season, traveled to UVa to face the #4 Cavaliers and dropped their first game of the season. Virginia (9-2) jumped on top of Old Dominion (4-1) early and went on to stop ODU's win streak at four, winning 15-3. Jessica Noone added to her scoring streak, now at ten straight, with a goal and an assist for ODU. Senior Sigrid Paulus also added a goal and an assist in the game.

Virginia jumped to a quick lead, scoring the first five goals including three straight in less than a minute early in the half. Virginia would add five more in the first half to take a 10-2 lead into the locker room.

Old Dominion scored goals at the 20:19 and the 2:46 marks in the first half for their scores. Jessica Noone received a pass from Ashley Kellogg and delivered a rifle into the back of the net for the first and Noone found senior Sigrid Paulus for the second in the 27th minute of play.

ODU goalie Sara Larson faced 24 shots in the first, nearly as many as ODU had allowed a team in an entire game so far this season. She made seven saves and totaled eight stops in the game.

In the second half, Old Dominion would hold the Cavaliers for the first seven and a half minutes, but Virginia would break through again, as Caity Whiteley scored her third of the night. The #4 team in the nation would add four more for their final count of 15.

Old Dominion kept pressing, and played well defensively in the second, only allowing 10 shots in the frame. Erica Erb led the way defensively with two caused turnovers.

With 7:41 remaining the Lady Monarchs would notch their final score from Nicole McMahon off an assist from Paulus.

ODU put 11 shots on the board against UVa but faced 36 total shots and also were called for 26 fouls to the Cavaliers nine. Kaitlin Duff led the way for Virginia with three goals and two assists as Noone and Paulus both score two points in the loss.

The Lady Monarchs fall to 4-1 on the season and Virginia improves to 9-2. ODU takes on #9 George Mason this Friday in Fairfax with start time set for 7:00 pm.
