Men's Tennis Achieve Highest Ranking In History

NORFOLK, Va. -- After starting the season the season with a 7-2 record, accumulating a six-game win streak to date, and earning an upset over then No. 35 N.C. State, the Old Dominion men's tennis team valuted to No. 36 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings released on Tuesday. The ranking is the highest ever for the Monarch men's tennis team.

The Monarchs have earned wins over the Wolfpack, Winthrop, and Michigan State while also blanking George Mason, the University of Richmond, Howard, and George Washington. Both losses have come at the hands of ranked foes, Wake Forest, currently No. 18 in the poll, and Duke, currently 12th in the poll.

The men's tennis team boast two individual singles rankings as well as a doubles ranking. Sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) is eighth in the nation with a 18-7 mark, while senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) is at No. 33 with a 20-7 record. Together the duo is ranked No. 45 in the country in doubles with a 16-5 overall mark.

The next singles and doubles rankings will be released on March 6th while the next team ranking will occur on March 13th.

The Old Dominion men's tennis team will return to action on Wednesday when they take on third-ranked Virginia.
