Sailing Tied For Sixth At ICSA Team Race

Honolulu, HI -- The Old Dominion sailing team is tied for sixth place after the first day of races at the ICSA Team Race. The Monarchs hold a 2-3 record along with Eckerd, UC-Santa Barbara and Washington. Georgetown and Harvard lead the team race each with a 5-0 record, while Tufts holds on to third with a 4-1 mark.
Thirty of 66 races were sailed on the first day of round-robin competition. Old Dominion defeated Texas and fellow six seed UC-Santa Barbara, but fell to the College of Charleston, Hawaii, and leader Georgetown.
The team race squad consists of Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, FL.), Lis Biondi (Norwalk, CT.), Matt Allen (Beverly, MA.), Anna Cobb (Mechanicsville, Va.), Ryan Thorvaldsen (Sayville, NY.), and Megan Bartley (Oak Park, IL.). Jack Kerr (Seattle, WA.), Bill Berg (Longwood, FL.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, LA) are alternates.
Old Dominion has won 12 Collegiate Sailing National Championships since 1982. Most recently, the women's team captured the 2002 ICSA National Championship over the weekend. The last team title occurred in 1998 when the Monarchs won both the Team Race and Co-ed Dinghy titles in New Orleans.
