Men's Tennis Sweeps Again

GREENSBORO, NC -- The Old Dominion men's tennis squad improved its season mark to 5-1 with a 7-0 shutout over UNC-Greensboro on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs have shutout their opponent in all five victories thus far in the dual meet season.

All six singles players earned straight set wins. Sophomore Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) moved up to first singles in yesterday's match posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Junior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) used a 6-3, 6-3 decision to capture a second singles over Julio Maron, while classmate Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) earned a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Marc Ladouceur at third singles. Rounding out singles play, freshman Adriano Mello (Loundrina, Brazil) defeated Rohan Kronti 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles, and junior Niklas Oskarsson (Halmsted, Sweden) gave up just two sets recording a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles.

The Monarchs captured two of the three doubles matches for the point. Senior Patrik Binkowski (Orby, Sweden) and Milos teamed up to blank Ladouceur and Johnson, 8-0, at number two doubles. Senior Salman Mohammed (Calcutta, India) and Oskarsson registered an 8-2 verdict over Gurarati and Kronti at third doubles. Mello and ver Merwe dropped their number one doubles match, 9-8, to Visser and Marron.

The men's tennis team will return to action on Wednesday, February 5th against CAA rival #15 Virginia Commonwealth.
