Women's LAX Ends Road Trip With Stops At Hofstra & Lafayette

NORFOLK, VA -- The Lady Monarch women's lacrosse team will close out the final portion of its four-game road trip as they head to CAA rival Hofstra and non-conferece opponent Lafayette. Old Dominion, ranked 17th in this week's IWLCA Poll, currently boasts a 7-3 record and is tied for first place in the CAA along with Delaware with a 3-0 league mark.
Two-time CAA Player of the Week Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoenixville, PA) leads the team with 39 points on 23 goals and 16 assists. She is three points shy of becoming the Lady Monarchs' all-time points leader, a record currently held by Anne Windover (1993-96). To date, Wosczyna has compiled 202 career points on 127 goals and 75 assists. Wosczyna already holds the all-time assist record, single season assist record, and single season point record.
Also aiding Wosczyna on the attack will be junior Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) who enters this weekend's competition with 25 goals and five assists for 30 points, and sophomore Melody Shotwell (Fairfax Station, VA) has totaled 28 goals and six assits for 34 points.
Senior co-captain Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, MD) currently leads the CAA in draw controls recording an average of 4.4 per game. She also leads the team with 13 caused turnovers and is tied with Hensil in groundballs collected with 29.
The Hofstra Pride enter this weekend's match-up with a 3-4 overall and 1-2 CAA record coming off a 9-8 win over UMass. The Pride will host William & Mary on Friday before taking on the Lady Monarchs on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
A pair of seniors and a newcomer lead the Pride this season. Senior midfielder Kathleen Mikowski is currently second in the CAA in scoring having registered 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists. Mikowski also ranks third in the league in draw controls. Freshman Becky Thorn is 10th in the league in scoring, recording 19 goals and two assists for 21 points. Senior midfielder Melissa Hendrick comes in as the Pride's third leading scorer with 14 points on five goals and nine assists.
A pair of sophomores lead the CAA's top goaltending unit. Lisa Papa has made six starts in net for Hofstra holding a 8.75 goal against average and a .520 save percentage. Megan Green has made two appearnces with one start holding a 6.67 goals against average and a .615 save percentage.
On Monday the Lady Monarchs will face Lafayette at 4:00 p.m. The Leopards hold a 3-9 overall mark having won their last two outing with a 13-7 win over St. Joseph's and a 12-11 victory over American. Lafayette is 2-1 in Patriot League contests.
A trio of juniors led the attack for Lafayette. Jennifer Stone is the Leopards' leading scorer with 30 points on 24 goals and six assists. Erin Gallagher has recorded 20 points on 16 goals and four assists, while Kim Maron has registered 10 goals and three assists for 13 points.
In net for the Leopards, rookie Tracey Williams holds a .512 save percentage and a 13.18 goals against average.
Following this weekend's competition, the Lady Monarchs will return home for two games. They will host Drexel on Friday, April 11th at 3:00 p.m. Old Dominion's final home game will be against Delaware at noon on Sunday, April 13th. The match-up with the Blue Hens' will also be the annual scholarship game with the $5.00 admission to benefit the Intercollegiate Foundation for lacrosse scholarships.
