Sept. 20, 2001

Norfolk, VA-Two sudden death overtimes and 120 minutes weren't enough to settle matters this evening as the Old Dominion women's soccer squad tied VCU, 1-1. Old Dominion is now 3-2-1, 1-0-1 CAA. VCU is 2-2-1, 0-0-1 CAA.

The Rams got on the board first in the opening moments of the game. Reacting to a VCU breakaway, Lady Monarch goalie Tonya Dedmond (North Potomac, MD) came out of the goal and intercepted the Ram player, but the ball squirted loose to the feet of VCU's Shayla Clark, who put home her third goal of the year.

ODU answered at the start of the second half, when senior forward Emily Becker (Va. Beach, VA) took the ball down low, came inside and beat Ram goalie Chrissy Lloyd to the inside near post. It was the third goal in two games for Becker, who is Old Dominion's leading scorer so far this season.

Old Dominion held a 12-11 edge in shots and a 6-5 advantage in corners. Ram goalie Chrissy Lloyd hauled in seven saves, and Dedmond registered six for the Lady Monarchs.

ODU will host James Madison this Sunday at 1 p.m. in another CAA match-up.
