Monarch Singles Entries Advance To Quarterfinals Of 2006 Southern Intercollegiate Championships

ATHENS, Ga. - All three Monarch men's tennis entries at the 2006 Southern Intercollegiate Championship on the campus of the University of Georgia advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the Division I singles bracket, sophomore Harel Srugo (Kibutz Gazit, Israel) and senior Henrique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) picked up significant wins. No. 18 Srugo defeated Jean Yves Aubone, ranked 120 in the Preseason ITA Poll for his second win this fall season over a ranked opponent, 6-2, 6-4 Cancado meanwhile upset the tournament's eighth seed and No. 32 Arvid Puramen of Virginia Tech. Cancado came back from down 3-6 in the first set to capture the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Srugo's quarterfinal match-up will be against Marek Sramek of Southern Alabama. Cancado will face Duke's Kiril Dimitrov, who upset second seeded Travis Helgeson of host Georgia in the Round of 32.
In the Division II bracket, sophomore Alex Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) advanced with a three set win over David Goulet of Duke. Winning the first set, 6-1, Seleznev fell 3-6 in the second set. However, he would advance with a 6-3 third set victory.
Seleznev advance to face Joakim Karlsson of Lander University in the quarterfinals.
